Mentorship Curriculum
This course will help students understand the 2D animation workflow for an acting shot. Students will explore key aspects of character performance, including pantomime, facial acting, lip-sync, and a complete action shot. Through practical exercises, they will develop their skills in conveying emotions, expressing character through body language, synchronising dialogue with mouth movements, and creating clear, engaging, and believable performances in 2D animation.
Week 1. Introduction and body mechanics

Overall course introduction.
Going over the 12 animation principles and the 2D workflow.
First animation exercise: running and jumping with an unfortunate ending.
Assignment for the next class:
-Bring 20 gesture drawings, an 8-10 second dialogue sound between two characters,
and a character turning around (3 poses) to animate next week.
Week 2. Pantomime
Week 2. Pantomime
Explanation of a pantomime with examples.
With the dialogue and the character turnaround, we will start an 8-10 second shot.
Assignment for the next class:
Bring 20 gesture drawings; keep working on the pantomime shot.
Week 3. Pantomime

We will keep working on the pantomime shot.
Assignment for the next class:
Bring 15 facial expression drawings from different angles.
Bring a one-person dialogue shot of 5 seconds.
Bring a character model sheet with 5 facial expressions.
Week 4. Acting Shot

We will start a mid shot with the character model sheet and dialogue sound, focusing on the facial expression.
Assignment for the next class:
-Bring 5 gesture drawings and 5 facial expression drawings.
-Bring one person dialogue shot, 8-10 seconds.
-Keep working on the acting shot and bring the rough pass ready for tie-down for the
next class.
Week 5. Acting Shot

We will work on the tie-down and lip-sync for last week's shot. We will start a new acting shot with the same carácter using the new dialogue

Keep working on the acting shot.

We will keep working on tying down the previous shot we started in the last action shot of the course.
Assignment for the next class:
Bring the 2-3 planes animatic
Week 7 Action shot

We will start the rough animation

We will start the tie-down pass.
